Request for Nominations for the Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award

The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), Airport Consultants Council (ACC) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is pleased to announce that nominations are being accepted for the Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award. The Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award is presented to the person or persons judged to have contributed most outstandingly during the recent past towards achieving compatible relationships between airports and/or heliports and adjacent environments. Eligible improvements may be in any of the following areas:

  • Airport land use compatibility plans and controls
  • Aircraft noise reduction or abatement activities
  • Promotion/encouragement of public participation in efforts to improve environmental quality
  • Protection of critical environmental resources
  • Architecture, landscaping, or other design considerations to improve compatibility of airports and their communities
  • Education, public relations, or institutional programs promoting an improved environment
  • The recipient of the award will receive a certificate and $10,000 honorarium. The deadline for nominations is October 1, 2004.

    Last year's winners were J. Christopher Nielson of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and David A. Brown of Parsons Transportation Group. They were honored with the award for planning, designing, and constructing the new runway at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in concert with the surrounding natural environment and the neighboring community.

    This award was established in 1983 and is co-sponsored by AIAA and the American Association of Airport Executives, and Airport Consultants Council. It is presented annually each Spring during the AAAE/ACC Airport Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium to the person or persons judged to have contributed most outstandingly during the recent past towards achieving compatible relationships between airports and/or heliports and adjacent environments.

    The award will be presented during the awards luncheon at the AAAE/ACC Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium to be held February 23-25, 2005 in Reno, Nevada.
